Filesystem Creation Notes

Software RAID0 was created by running mdadm command on the local 12 NVMe disks. Filesystem was created using mkfs.xfs command on the RAID0 device for benchmarking.

Storage and Filesystem Notes

The XFS filesystem was attached with a single mount and using the noatime option. All other mount options were the default for Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS.

Memory Notes

The system has 12 DIMM slots for DDR5 supports up to 8800 MT/s.

Stable Storage

The XFS file system provides journaling support for filesystem protection.

Solution Under Test Configuration Notes

The benchmark was run on a single H3C UniServer R3900 G7 server with local NVMe storage disks. RAID0 config was created using the drives and XFS filesystem was set up on the RAID0. Ubuntu 24.04.1 OS was installed on an internal NVMe drive. There were no additional external clients or storage devices or network devices were connected to this setup. The system has a Intel Xeon 6960P (72cores) processor and 12 NVMe drives were connected to support lots of disk storage and good storage performance. The testing was done with Hyper-Threading enabled in BIOS to enable 144 threads for more processing power.

Other Solution Notes

None

Dataflow

This single server setup has a RAID0 partition created on the local storage drives and XFS file system was created on the RAID. Data gets written directly on to the XFS filesystem and on to the NVMe storage devices. No other external storage device was used.

Other Notes

The benchmark was run on a single H3C UniServer R3900 G7 server using its local NVMe drives. No other client systems, or external storage devices or networking devices were connected to this test system. This benchmark was tested on Ubuntu 24.04.1 OS with kernel 6.8.0-41-generic.All components used for testing have applied security patches for Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities (CVE7-5754, CVE7-5753, CVE7-5715), ensuring that the system is protected from such attacks.
